Search for a story

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a story, unfortunately I've forgotten the title and it's been a few years since I read it.
The story is about a couple of girls who are chased through a swamp by a baroness and her henchmen. One sinks after the other and in the end the baroness is thrown from her horse into a quicksand pit and the girls she was chasing let her sink.
Do any of you know the story?
