Add to the mix some type of electromagnetic force that renders ALL spacey electronics inoperative. Now the spacer is trapped on the planet and is required to survive using her own wits. But unfortunately or hapless space explorer has become too resilient upon her electronics, things like the shiny suit that has a built in force shield and envelopment controls. The spacey suit could be a silver jumpsuit (silver / chrome painted Jump Suit) with a belt that contains some of the controls and power pack. She would have two stiff cuffs. The left would be communications and the right weapons, all of which are now useless due to the electromagnetic damping field.Soon she is baking in the suit and sheds it for a more cooling set of undergarments.
The reason for the female spacer sis because of a war that killed of many men therefor they are now an endangered part of the human species. The explorer's spaceship detected life forms on the planet and she went down to investigate. She is now searching for the life form and at the same time trying to deactivate the damping field.

I enjoy the fiction behind charged sand particles creating 'oceans' and rivers of magnetized sand. Final Fantasy XII had the Sand Sea and Zertinan Caverns filled with rivers of soft sand. I was disappointed that the area known as the Athroza Quicksands had no real pits which consumed characters. The sight of Fran the Viera "bunnygirl' sinking into quicksand would have been epic. ( does this put me in danger of becoming a furry? ) Anyways, perhaps it is best left to the anime fans...

The addition of a few LED powered and properly sealed props would not be needed because they are 'dead'.
Hummm A sea of Sand, that might require a blue screen shoot.
