Puppet Show bog - 80's/90's?

Hi all,

I have a vague memory from my childhood sometime in the late 80's/90's which I wondered if someone could help me verify/identify? It was from a show shown on UK tv where a young man was asked to go to a forest and chop some wood or obtain something (? vagueness of memory) and his grandfather/father (?) warned him of a bog/swamp to avoid. The character ended up in the bog, which I remember as steaming (dry ice?) but was half real (ie dry peat) and half puppet (kinda like that purple squidgy bog character from wizbit) - I'm sure there were all these 'hands' in the bog gripping the young man (ie human puppeteers). I believe he was also talking to the bog to try to negotiate his freedom. I can't remember if the young man himself was a human actor or a puppet (when I say puppet I mean like muppet style not punch and judy lol).

Can any help me see that I wasn't dreaming this?
