Went to Southport Beach recently, that place is a beach death trap essentially. Here's two parts I found :D as well as an overview of how far out the tide was:

How was the mud? That's not an unreasonable drive for me. This is Southport beach in NC right?
How populated was the beach

This is Southport in England, aka the UK.

I was at Southport more recently, mid-July - where exactly did you go?

We went close to the pier and started to walk all the way out. The tide was about 1km out, so there was a lot to cover. As for where we started, we started walking from I guess around where the KFC is near the beach.

Did you actually find any deep mud? I've been there quite a few times but never found anything significant!

There were some parts further along the beach that got deeper, but not many close to the area leading down onto the beach
