Interesting pictures. Thanks for sharing!

I don't think I have ever seen anything like the area in the last picture either. From the looks of it I would guess that it used to be a shallow pond that became overgrown with moss and then dried up.

Those are some nice bogscape pictures, and yes, that last photo is of a mossy pond/bog that had dried out on top, except for deeper down, the highest moss all bleached white from drying out. :)

Those are awesome! I like the carpet bog. You never know about those death traps hehehe. I know Elk Island Nat Park has quicksand in it. Going to the Sask River Valley for a hike on Fri if the mosquitoes aren't too bad. I need to scout to see if all the tributaries are full of water.

the last pit looks interesting, there is one near where I live such as this one but the contour is a lot bigger, the mud pit looks similar to yours but the surface is full of dry cracks giving you the idea that its dry, I walked in and the whole pit has a bouncy feel and almost immediately after going in, your weight will force yourself thru and I went in to the top of my knee and this stuff is like glue, the drier it is, the thicker the stuff is, it occurs to me that bog crossing is a form of strenght training

Nice place, i like the pictures, reminds me this spring's bod expedition.
Where's this place anyway? How deep did you try the spots?
