Quicksand Fans

So I've got a pretty beefy new computer, and realized I could get in on this Second Life jazz. So I downloaded it and tried it out, but quickly realized that I have no idea what I'm doing, and that it's a lot more involved that I had previously thought.

So anyone wanna help me get started with the basics some time? Mainly showing me how to get to the places with quicksand, figuring out how to use mods and shit, as I probably want to have a kinda anime-y avatar, and stuff like that.
