The theme of today's post will be... Revisiting things past.
So, to start us on our journey down memory lane let me hand over to the doyen of Hollywood historians, Kalton C. Lahue.

In 1940 Republic Pictures had great success with the serial Mysterious Doctor Satan and hoped to capitalise on that with a sequel,
'Doctor Satan Returns'. This offering began filming in 1941 but Edward Cianelli, who played the evil scientist, succumbed to a stroke late in that year, putting a halt to the production. He died in January the following year and with the lead actor gone it was decided that the serial be scrapped.
Several scenes had already been filmed, one of which showed Dorothy Herbert captured by Doctor Satan's robotic servants and facing a slow, horrible end in what was referred to as the Iron Box of Death. She was rescued just in the nick of time by Bob Wayne, played by Robert Willcox. Just five stills have survived from that scene, so we are lucky indeed to see them.
