This is a common problem with AI. AI has a very hard time with pattern recognition for hands and fingers.

How bizarre about the extra finger. You'd think the AI's programmers would have included some sort of standardized parameters for normal human hands and fingers unless otherwise specified by the user.

Remember that the AI isn't using a 3D model that has a wireframe specifying how many fingers are possible. It's a 2D approximation of what a hand looks like. Hands are ridiculously complex for even a human to draw. In most cases, we see a bunch of parallel lines and our brain tells us that it's a hand, but it's very difficult for an AI to "see" what a hand is. It doesn't "know" how many fingers it has generated. Its data set basically has lots of hands that look like parallel lines, so it generates lots of parallel lines.
