My only complaint so far is the ship designs are still too much like a space Cabin-Cruiser/Yacht for my tastes. Other than that I'm enjoying this.
As for Trek, they're still asking me to put down money to watch (unllke Fox, again, have to give them props for their limited commercial FREE steaming experience) so no clue what's going on there. Not paying for an STD.

I think they doing not bad, none of the trek series had me liking the crew this early in the run. Even blob-guy with his fetish for the Doc, isn't annoying Plus, based on Earth's cultural database, antidepressant stuff, includes Rocky Road ice cream, and The Sound of Music?

Our first Rescue/Intrigue show. Not too bad, Charlese does mysterious/sinister pretty good.
Nice effect look for a dark matter field, much better that Trek did, but they get a pass for couple decades better effects
Time-travelling artifact thief. Cute. Who got the shit beat out of her ultimately, sometimes the brute force solutions the best
Issac saved the day although he almost got fried in the process. Just please, no more retard-Steinfeld episode shit....
The B-story explaining humor was ok, Malloy putting Mr Potatohead face on Issac was good. But Issac's response prank of severing his leg in his sleep didn't go over as well with Malloy. Gee

Ok, it's not Hyperdrive (1,000,000C low-end, and has been as high as 30,000,000C But Hyperdrive is dependent on position, stellar density and surveyed routes. Still )

Orville did some Captain-goes-behind-lines espionage this time, with Malloy along for help (YMMV, with Gordo along... ) but not a bad episode. We get to see the Krill in more detail, and considering the point was trying to understand them more, by securing cultural information - it worked well. Getting a copy of their "bible'' was a good idea (even if we learned it's basically kill everything not Krill...) Had some good bits, with the book being an actual book, and short of swiping it, they have to image every SINGLE page. Trek always waves a tricorder and quantum quantum bullshit. Nuh-uh. Try snapping photos with your smart phone of your bible. Take a while, eh?

But the mission goes sideways when they learn that the ship they on en route to wipe out a Union colony with a massive bomb. And there are Cadets (kids) aboard, so they have to consider WTF to do? Altering the plan at serious risk to themselves, but pull it off, barely. But no kidding around. Gordo gets his new leg stabbed nasty (THAT was a brand new leg! ) And fiddling with the life support, we see the entire crew killed by UV light. Minus the kids. But not exactly a happy ending.

How did one reviewer put it though?
Discovery Humanised the Klingons by making them cannibals.
Orville Humanised the Krill by introducing their children and forcing Ed and Gordon to weigh their lives against a Union colony.
One of these is more effective than the other.
And yeah, STD did DO That

One reviewer, put it, that the infantile spaz-retard emo fans with no clue, history, or CARES wouldn't even probably notice. Unfortunately, for old school fans, THIS is a fucking show breaker. And they can scream RACIST! or SEXIST! all they like, but its the older fans who have the money to PAY for this shit. And thus will be the ones to tell CBS to fuck off. But having the Klingons EAT the captain who was killed in the boarding in the pilot, just is BAD. Now I know for a fact, that some of these fucks are trying to spin "oh, they were starving" bullshit as an EXCUSE. Fuck them DEAD. These fundy spaz "Klingons" are so retarded, as to sit there in a disabled ship for SIX MONTHS , running out of everything, and refuse to salvage the parts to get them going from the wreck of the Shenzhou , because ITS UNCLEAN Plus, not a single Klingon or vessel comes back to help them until this ep. For the cloaking tech (which they shouldn't have...) and bribes the oh-so-loyal crew WITH A MEAL....

It's no surprise that CBS refuses to provide data on subscribers and numbers for it now, since on PAY CBS. What a waste. And it IS A RETCON. You should have SEEN the fucking thing they tried to call a "D-7" tonight. You would have been screaming at the screen. And wept....

As Iowahawk put it a long time back, they work sorta like this:

1. Identify a respected institution.

2. Kill it.

3. Gut it.

4. Wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

And the spazoids and their minions are all-in. The Space Channel types here do everything but lube up and get on their knees for it....
And they STILL keep screaming it's TOS. All they had to do, was set this shitfest 30 years after Voyager. And don't call these fucking Orcs Klingons. Do something different. But of course, that would just not happen. Having to depend upon your fans and viewer not being allowed to THINK, for the plot to work, is a violation of Chuck Sonneburg's General Order One.
