Get rid of the New Topic Approval that comes up when anyone makes a new post, several people tell me they try to post something related to quicksand and it never gets through because of every post now requiring moderator approval.
If your having problems with spammers implement google ReCAPTCHA into post submissions instead of topic approval.

Re: Get rid of the New Topic Moderator Approval
Actually, the vast majority of members here can post without requiring moderator approval.
So, the polling sample largely doesn't sympathize with the issue, other than the fact that they enjoy a spam-free board with little or no unnecessary drama.
A more apropos question would be whether or not certain members should be able to post freely.

I deserved my probation ,and it’s only due to Dave’s mercy that I wasn’t banned outright. So I voted no.

Re: Get rid of the New Topic Moderator Approval
Having had experience as a moderator in the this group in the past I can attest to the importance of being able to moderate everything at certain times. Opening the board those who have not proven themselves to be responsible adults would be unwise. That's the moderators job.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

Anyone who doesn't understand, and approve of, the importance of vetting new members on an anonymous forum is someone I don't want posting on my anonymous forum. Recaptcha may filter bots, but does nothing to impede trolls.

The replies to this post are all, I think, right on target. Its not just spammers. Its also every variety of troll and a few who appear to lack the ability to behave as adult human beings.

I couldn't vote a yes on this because of that word "every".
I definitely do not believe that most people need approval on every post. But no way is that everybody who joins. They do need to prove themselves by being routinely approved for awhile.
Some spammers aren't robots at all. They're people who are spamming by hand, the slow way, manually navigating from forum to forum, and they can read those codes.

And, after thinking about this a bit, I'm going to call "shenanigans" on Wario. Who are these "several people" who, although they cannot post on the forum, are contacting Wario as a form of redress? Seems sketchy on several levels.
