She had heard of the tribe's worst form of punishment; strenuous with high probability of death, but she never thought she would be given that sentence.
The one who prepared her for her confinement gestured strongly at the importance of the small ridged reed that would act as the breathing tube.
It was shoved into her mouth with such force it caught the back of her throat, then she was plunged into mulchy pit to join the other 'prisoners'.
She gag and coughed and lost the breathing tube. She called out to the tribesman to come back, but they had already walked away into the fog.
The breathing reed looked like it was just in reach, but her bonds were tight and restricting. The peat was thick and she was sinking very slowly, the struggles of the other prisoners below disturbed the mud, she could feel moments of her descent quicken whenever the surface churned too much.
She tried to keep her struggles at a minimum, she knew for a fact the swamp would claim her naked body, but she needed all the time she could in order to grab the breathing tube.
The panic really set in when she reached her shoulders, and she couldn't reach the reed.

She's a cutie!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Now this is something different. I don't think I have read any story where quicksand was used like that before. And the art is pretty good too. Thanks for sharing this!
