Godzilla Minus One Oscar

Postby EVysther » Sat Mar 16, 2024 8:14 am

After 70 years and 38 movies, Toho Studios *finally* gets an award for their much beloved character...and Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito present it!
8-)

I would have *loved* to see it take Best Foreign Film, but, hey, this is remarkable.

I also suspect this will greatly influence Toho Studios in whatever they do next in terms of the franchise....

...oh, and don't get me started on this new American film due in a couple weeks, looks truly awful...the CGI looks cheap, they gave Godzilla hot pink fins (!?!??!WTF!?!?! ) and it's looking to play like a comic book/monster buddy kind of flick...help...

Any idea when this is going to start streaming? I didn't waste my time or money going to see it in theaters thinking it'd be released on Prime in a few months anyway but WTF Godzilla X Kong is already out but no Minus One?

It's out on Netflix right now. You can watch it in either dubbed or original Japanese version.
The Japanese version is always going to be best, but they actually did a pretty decent job on the dubbing this time. I guess they wanted to do the film the justice it deserves.
If you haven't seen it yet, definitely do. You will not be sorry. Many, myself included, are calling it the best Gojira since the original.
Personally, I've also thoroughly enjoyed all the Monsterverse movies as well, including the newest, Godzilla X Kong. It's certainly more Showa-era fun than Minus One but I have no problem with that.
Yes, I am a Godzilla nerd! And proud of it!

Thanks! I've given up on movie theaters for the most part for a variety of reasons and been wanting to catch this cause I heard it was really good. 8-)

It absolutely is as good as you've heard. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll gasp, you'll cheer...well...maybe not laugh. lol But most of all, you'll be really impressed and happy with it.
I've pretty much given up on theaters too. Probably for similar reasons. But there are a few movies I'll make an exception for. Godzilla is one of them. A lot of folks would think I'm nuts for this, but I saw Minus One in the theater six times. And GxK three times. What can I say? I'm always gonna support the "Big G"! 8-)
And yeah, Toho deserved much more than just an FX Oscar.

The last time I went to a movie theater was before I moved away from Amarillo. That was in 1997. Just too expensive. When I was a professor, in Canyon, TX, there was a very old, beaten up theater. About half the seats were broken. On Friday afternoon, however, you could get in for one dollar and the ticket came with a bag of popcorn. I suspect the owners were desperate. You had to put up with the craziness of some of the students who were there, but that happens at football games too. They're students. And probably somewhat inebriated even in the early afternoon. Many Fridays our whole department went. I think the last movie I saw there was Anaconda, which was absolutely terrible. It would have taken three quicksand scenes to save that one.
Studio 588 currently offers more than 2200 different HD and QD quicksand videos and has supported production of well over 2400 video scenes and other projects by 20 different producers. Info may be found at:

90% of the reason I gave up on theaters is people. I got sick and tired of screaming children, obnoxiously loud conversations and idiots with 5 second attention spans looking at their cell phones.

I got 65" of 4k beauty on my wall, 5.7 surround sound that shakes the floor when stuff blows up, I can hit pause when I want more popcorn, AND I don't have to deal with the above. Streaming rocks. 8-)
