On Monday, August 11'th, I had my first adventure of the year, where I had two sinking sessions - one off camera, and one on camera! :D Even though the mud was largely exposed, the water level was so high that the mud sunk below the surface wherever I had sunk, so I worked things out quite well by limiting each sink to separate halves of the bog. 8-) However, it turned out that the side I chose for the video was much "juicier" than the side I chose for my personal sink. I was happy to be able to hold my breath longer during my submergence than I usually did. 8-) But, I was disappointed that the wind kept coming up and masking the sounds of the bog farting and bubbling around me, as well as part of my "talking to myself" monologue. :x I also shot some footage of the mud undulating from me agitating the floating mat of grass beside it, but the footage was extremely shaky. However, iMovie with its video stabilization tool fixed it nicely. 8-)

An interesting fact is that when I shot the footage for my sink (which I extracted my sink and escape videos from), which included me walking around the bog (off camera) to get into place, doing the "talking to myself" monologue to set up the situation, doing the sinking scene, emerging and mushing the mud and plants around me, exiting while pushing mud off me, heading to the pond to clean off my hands, and then returning to my camera to turn it off, it turned out to be exactly 10 minutes, and zero seconds! I don't know how I managed to get the timing so precise, since I could hardly see the screen through my partially muddy swim goggles when I turned it off, unless I clicked it off the moment I saw a change in the size of a white blur on the screen, but it is hard to remember. :? Enjoy! 8-)

QUAKING MIRE!

Here is a view of some wet, muddy ground. Click on the image, and you will see it come to life, undulating and wiggling like jelly! It is very hungry, and anxiously waiting to be fed!

CARNIVOROUS GROUND!

The wilderness can be a great place to explore and recreate! :D But, there are also dangers lurking there as well! Carnivores such as grizzly bears, wolves and cougars could easily make a meal out of you! But, where this man is hiking and planning for a swim, there is an even deadlier carnivore lurking in the meadow - the ground itself! He has heard stories about it but didn't believe it, instead taking advantage of the supposed "danger" to enjoy some privacy! 8-) But, disgusted by all the stinky swamp gas bubbling and farting out of the bouncing grass :x , he tries to step onto a large patch of bare, grass-free earth, only to fall prey to the Carnivorous Ground! :o Click on the image of the "innocent-looking ground" below to catch all the fun!

ESCAPE FROM CARNIVOROUS GROUND!

Near the center of the photo below is a dragonfly (its wings are moving too fast to show up in the screen capture) that is over top a patch of disturbed mud. Doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary. :? But, click on that image, and you will notice that the surface of the mire is moving ever so slightly, before burping up a bubble! But, this isn't swamp gas, but the escaping breath of a man who had just been sucked under the soggy, bubbling, farting slime! Not wanting to drown in the voracious ooze, he manages to break the surface of the sucking mire and work himself up higher, gasping for air, spitting out mud and coughing from the little bit of liquid earth that did manage to get into his throat during his ordeal! :o Taking care not to make the wrong movements that could get him sucked back down again, he churns the mud all around him as he searches for the best escape route, before finally choosing the direction behind him, and working his way to safety! :D In a bit of irony, the very ground that swallowed him whole becomes swallowed itself, by water from a nearby lake!

Once again, thanks Dave, for hosting my videos on mpvstuff! :D

I particularly enjoy the segment near the end of your sink where the quicksand repeatedly flows into your mouth, and you're forced to spit it out. Quicksand in the mouth is such a powerful image!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.
