Volcano about to erupt

Although volcanos are unpredictable it appears the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii will erup today and will be viewable on Youtube. It has already begun to spatter. If recent history is a guide, once it starts it will throw lava hundreds of feet into the air for 8 to 12 hours. The actual eruption point is about 2000 to 3000 feet from the location of a research project I had aboiyt 25 years ago, and also the site of the very first video (nothing to do with quicksand) I ever filmed.

My original post on this subect was prematre by about 40 hours, but the volcano is now erupting. I would expect some fountainning of lave very soon. For a very good live video view, I suggest:

For the past 24 hours or so, the eruptins have taken the form of a series of overflows and drainbacks, but as yet no fountaining. It looks to me like it is going to start fountaining any moment. It is wellworth watchng once that starts.
