Who was Albert Brown? He passed away Aug. 16th. He was 105.
He was the oldest known survivor of the Bataan Death March (was 35 years old at the time).

In three years in captivity Captain Brown was regularly beaten; thrown down stairs, seriously injuring his back; and struck in the neck by a rifle butt, causing a fracture. Though nearly 6 feet, he weighed 90 pounds when he was freed after the Japanese surrender.
By the time the war ended in 1945, the 40-year-old Brown was nearly blind, had weathered a broken back and neck and suffered through more than a dozen diseases including malaria, dysentery and dengue fever.
He took two years to mend, and a doctor told him to enjoy the next few years because he had been so decimated he would be dead by 50.
Talk about tough. I don't think we're made of the same stuff today. It bears remembering that we for damn sure wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for people like him.

Wow.
I can't help but smile to see that they failed so completely to kill this brave man. Not only did he make it through all that but he made it to 105.

And thank you, Robert to bringing this bit of history to our attention. 
Too often, the feats of men like Mr. Brown get overlooked or forgotten with the passage of time, and a lamentable lack of interest among many in society for history. It is folks like Robert and company who help ensure these important, inspirational stories and the people they are about are not forgotten.

Agreed. It's impossible to shake the hand of each but it would be the gravest of sins to collectively forget their contributions.

I heard about this on the radio. Sad news.
When one survives the Bataan Death March as well as captivity throughout the war under the conditions Captain Brown went through, living to 105 is no surprise. One Bataan Death March survivor on the Military Channel said survival was all mental toughness. He said he knew for a fact that no matter what was done to him, he would survive it all and come home one day. That's what got him through. No doubt Captain Brown was made of the same stern stuff and then some.
