I so love that "kid kills his evil stepmom" scenario. Classic!!

What comic did that one come from?

This is from the story "Stick in the Mud," which appeared in Fight Against Crime #19, one of those pre-code comics from the 50s. It is one of the stories mentioned specifically as evidence in the infamous set of hearings on comics and juvenile delinquency which killed horror comics and led to the gutting of the comic industry for decades afterwards... took me several years to track it down... eventually was able to get scans of the story from a fellow who collects comics and whom I contacted on line....

Because, darn it, it is my kind of scenario too! :D

I remember as a kid (probably around 1978, 79 or 80 or so ...) standing in a hospital gift shop looking at comics when a horror comic cover caught my eye ... pretty sure it had a guy fleeing through a swamp, with snakes, spiders and other assorted critters on the cover as well. Inside was the comic was a story about two bank robbers on the lam running across a log straddling a quicksand pit. The one robber tricks the other into handing him his bag of loot (or so my foggy memory goes) and uses a lumberjack log rolling trick to pitch the other guy into the quicksand to his doom. A bit later in the story, the criminal is coming back the same way after a similar heist, this time alone. When he tries to evade the police by going over the same log that he was familiar with, he is pulled into the quicksand by the much-covered arms of his dead partner in crime.
If this scene didn't help jumpstart my fascination with quicksand, I don't know what did, and I have been looking for this comic story ever since. Sadly, I can't even begin to tell you what comic it was, or from which company, but if this scene rings any bells with any of the collectors, could they please drop me a note? Or better yet, repost the story? I'm interested in knowing if it is as good as I remember it. Thanks!
(Also, please let me know if this would be better placed in Requests ... don't mean to break protocol.)

Those Sheena comics must be some of the most gruesome QS scenes. But thanks for posting.

Considering all the horrible ways baddies buy it in these early jungle comics, quicksand tends to be the easy way out... ;)

Here's an early Camilla scene from Jungle Comics.
