That last still almost looks like it's a behind the scenes photo or something.

That penultimate one - is that a Gillray? If it is - then WOW. Certainly in his style.

Is there any chance of posting a larger version so that the text becomes readable?

Edit after some searching: Yes, it IS a Gillray; from 1793. It depicts Charles James Fox, a notorious fixer in British politics of the time. Still haven't managed to read it in full, though.

I'll keep an eye out for a bigger, more high res one... I'm pretty curious as to what is being said too. I do love the old artwork and the way it reflects the times. :)

Or I could go and find out. That particular Gillray is in the National Portrait Gallery in London. As it happens, I was going to London tomorrow anyway, and the NPG is open until nine on Thursdays. No promises, but I'll try to find a moment to drop in.

And is that a first for this site? A man goes to a serious art gallery to look at a painting of quicksand.....

Why not? We are pioneering, in a way... :D

That would be cool if you could. I'm pretty curious about this one myself. :)

Cute! :D

And now a few more from me...

First set is some beauty wallowing in under the water quicksand from either a movie or TV program... alas, I know nothing else except the photos. Any additional info would be appreciated... :) The file names are unchanged...
