The last photo is from the Netherlands, taken in 2008 by 19 years old photographer Maurice Hamming. The photo won the prize as 'the news photo of the 2008'. Yes, it was a real quicksand rescue.

It's weird how that looks like an 'infinity bog' (think infinity pool). The depth of field is all wrong. I'm wondering if that was actually a slurry tank.
