I might be incorrect, entirely or in some details, but as I recall Nessie reported on an attempt at this using a group she ran for several years. As I recall (sorta) the percentage of her members she concluded were genuinely female was about 5 percent. Also, I think she reported about another 5 percent who used a female persona but who she concluded were not.

My personal opinion on this, not based on any data beyond observation of many people over many years, is that the percentage of females with some kind of attraction for quicksand is somewhat higher. I believe that a tendency to be more reticent about this and similar things explains the difference.

For what its worth I have personally met (face to face) a total of five females who claim to have (and that I believe were being truthful) an actual quicksand fetish. All five have been to my Studio for one or another purpose. I have also met, online, a half dozen or so others.

You're close. This was around 2002 or 2003, and I ran the numbers on a Yahoo group that I ran (it's now gone). I cannot remember how many members I had at the time but it did take me about an hour to sit there and count female profiles, so it was enough to get an idea.

The percentage of members who declared themselves female turned out to be 6%. Profiles where gender was indecipherable were not counted. Unless I knew for a fact that a profile had been outed as a fake, I did count it as female even if it looked fakey.

I cannot read minds, so this was no more than a numbers check. I had one group member who attempted to calculate the lie factor and he wrote me a private message declaring the feminine membership to be actually 2%, but when I asked him for the data, he didn't have anything that I didn't have.

I can't blame him, though, for being pessimistic. 6% wasn't exactly encouraging.

However, I strongly suspect that since those days, things have gotten better. Attitudes toward women in our community have improved a lot. This forum, as a whole, conducts itself very well compared to how things were a decade ago. And the Internet is no longer new. I suspect that the newer generation, who has grown up around computers and is of course half female just like us old fogeys are, probably doesn't think it's a very big deal to be on a fetish forum the way people of my age did.

It's still mighty lopsided. I'm not sure why us gals persist in being so badly outnumbered since I cannot believe that more of us do not exist, and I really, really do believe that there's still a big invisible factor (we're probably lurking) but the last few years have shown some serious glimmers of hope, both in the attitudes of men and in the numbers of participants who are active and conduct themselves in ways that make me believe that they are real women.
