Its not likely but it would be quite funny if it turned out the lights were from another person doing exactly the same thing.

Just as a tip, infrared night vision equipment will pick up infrared light sources like crazy. So, whether there is a constant source or a flash, that type of light source is easily detected.

Also, a wide range if camcorder image chips are sensitive in that range. If you want to see if yours is, point an infrared remote at it and press a button. In most cases, you can see the signal pulses of the remote control infrared LED.

In other words, just about any camcorder can help you spot infrared light sources at night as well.

Camera traps are becoming more common as they become less expensive and I foresee a day when some quarries start using them to monitor their mud areas. If care is taken in concealing them, they would be almost impossible to detect if they are not using a flash. What concerns me most is when they start putting wifi in 'em and using them for real time surveillance back at the guard shack...

We already do just that for environmental concerns at the plant where I work. I was at Wal-Mart late a few nights ago and saw ridiculously cheap, good performing, trap cams bubble packed and hanging on a peg rack. You might as well expect they can be anywhere that somebody wants them now.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

You can't do anything about them when they are on private property and filming private property.
I don't know how the law is in the US, but over here it is not allowed to just hang a cameratrap somewhere where a normal trespasser would be filmed unless you put big signs like "CAMERA SURVEILLANCE" near it. This includes public areas of course. So, when i find that kind of cam by chance in the middle of a forest or a swamp, that cam is illegal and now mine

I can't wait till I can move to more private property and dig my own claypit........it will be so awesome to go for a sink and not constantly be worried about being discovered.

Just have to find a spot with sufficient tree cover. Also the law isn't clear on how much airspace you own with your property but the authorities have generally sided with the homeowner when they shoot down a drone over private property. 8-)

This is to not to quibble with the post, but to suggest some care when referring to, or reading about, what the law says. The law is specific to one's location (country, state, etc., and there are members here from many countries.

^^Good point. Know your local laws well. Living in a rural area I have a tendancy to take certain freedoms for granted. :D
