Also the firefighters did a great job by attacking the fire from the inside chiefly. By sacrificing the roof, the building (walls) itself could be saved. Good that they did not use waterbombers like POTUS did tweet

They were never going to use helicopters. They carry a few hundred gallons for hitting hot spots in the woods. Each fire hose was delivering a thousand gallons a minute. You might as well have had schoolboys pissing on a blaze like this.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Wood framing that is hundred(s) years old might as well be made of match sticks. It has little/no moisture left in it and the sap has concentrated into a resin that when ignited is basically organic napalm. There's a lot of turn-of-the-century houses in my neck of the woods, on the occasion they catch fire they generally burn to the ground no matter how much water you try to put on them, the heat just gets too intense.

I also learned that the lost spire was a rebuild made in the 1800s, so it can be rebuilt again.
In truth, I wish they'd leave it off. The church is built like a cross, but if you look at it from above (God's-eye view), the spire makes it look like a cross with a stake driven through it's heart. Maybe God is trying to tell us something with all the destruction done to it over the centuries...

Anyway, this is the spire close up...A LOT of beautiful craftmanship was burned, though the patina'd copper statues around it were in storage at the time and are safe....

Before-after photos have just been posted.

And this is the best shot I have seen showing the damage. You can see how the stone sub-ceiling prevented the entire interior for the most part by containment of the burning roof materials.

Re: Tragedy in Paris
I'm showing a big interest in this fire, but that's because right after the racist church fires happened last week, I ran across a video of a Serbian church fire in New York in 2016 that was rather dramatic: https://www.youtube.com/embed/YOXuadBv4MU
In this fire the entire interior was in flame, and with fresh air and oxygen being drawn in broken stained glass widows down low the building took the form of a blast furnace, the large medallion window in front thus transformed into a giant blowtorch that almost reached the building across the street! Very dramatic, very tragic.
Then I see Notre Dame aflame and getting worse, and I was fearfully expecting to see it's own rose windows do likewise. : https://image1.masterfile.com/getImage/ ... -photo.jpg
I did not know of the sub-ceiling that helped the building survive the fire, with the help of many firemen of course. SO close to total loss.

Re: Tragedy in Paris
Maybe donate some clay from the quicksand pits for new bricks?
You know grape-treading when they make wine?
That, but instead it's clay stirred from the naked bodies of quicksand fetishists.
Always look on the bright side of the life.
