Former President Jimmy Carter dies at 100
Big one today:
Former President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100.
His son, Chip Carter confirmed that the former president died at his home in Plains about 3:45 p.m.
Carter, who lived longer than any other U.S. president, entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia in February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays.
The only Georgian ever elected to the White House, Carter left office after a single term that was highlighted by forging peace between Israel and Egypt, but was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis. In the decades after, his reputation grew through his and wife Rosalynn Carter’s work at the Carter Center in Atlanta and his philanthropic causes such as Habitat for Humanity.
“People will be celebrating Jimmy Carter for hundreds of years. His reputation is only going to grow,” Rice University history professor Douglas Brinkley wrote in his book “The Unfinished Presidency of Jimmy Carter.”

Yea, he was good.
Much like Stuart Scott, he had a way of making things about sports, and not about himself. These relatively humble personalities are becoming a rare thing. Sigh.
Of course, what do I know. I watch NFL highlights on YouTube from time to time (how about them Lions?) and I hardly know anybody. Chris Collingsworth's voice popped up and I almost exalted out loud "I know that guy!"

As a long-time Eagles fan, I would look forward to a matchup of Eagles v. Lions in the playoffs, but there is a lot of water to go over the dam for that to transpire. If you want to hear a really good local play-by-play announcer, try streaming Merrill Reese during an Eagles game: he’s a home-towner but respects the opponent and has a classic radio voice. While I was not a big fan of President Carter at the time, he was for sure a decent person and a true patriot at the same time. His Navy service and his Habitat and Carter Foundation work for decades proved he walked the walk on the human decency front. RIP.
