For other people, I quite like a sexy schoolgirl outfit, or a short skirt/tank top combo.
That or a long tee and leggings...
Not that it stays on, things tend to get removed by the sucking muck, or to try and help an escape., which tops it off nicely. :D

For myself, I've had to settle with loose tracksuit bottoms and a tee, although I'd quite like to have worn less.

Maybe another time.

Hope I'm not too late for this conversation!

I've not yet gotten the chance to play around in mud or quicksand but as someone who's extremely interested in the idea, a rivethead goth and a total fetishist, I'd love nothing more than to go under in a second skin rubber catsuit and strappy knee boots. Along similar lines I suspect that a good, tight wetsuit could be wonderful for such an event, and lycra suits have so many uses...
Another thought I've been tossing around lately involves full rubber coverage and a gas mask, I'm wondering how well it'd work to hook up a length of hose to the end of it and run that to the surface so you could actually stay under for a while. Don't suppose anyone's tried that one yet? Some day I'd love to attempt it.

I totally get it! I find lycra (cycling clothing) the best because you have some degree of protection while you plumb the depths of your pit and it can also be peeled off like a banana relatively quickly. Wetsuits are difficult to shed and dull the sensations of the mud, especially in the really creamy stuff! ;) Heavier armor and shoes are sometimes necessary though (beaver ponds would be such an instance) as all kinds of debris and sticks can be hidden beneath the surface. I once found some yahoos had thrown beer bottles in some quicksand and then smashed them with rocks (target practice?). I felt the glass through my cycling gear in the 'nick' of time  and had to spend time cleaning what still is a great night spot albeit a poor daylight location.

I have used a pvc pipe for a breathing tube during underbog sinks for some time now. I also have used a shop-vac hose for underbog sinks, allowing me to face forward while submerged. I used to have trouble with some mud getting into my eyes, no matter how tightly closed they were, so I use swim goggles to protect them. It is really nice to be able to stay under for a longer time, breathing through a tube/hose. However, because the shop-vac hose is too long for my lungs to draw in any fresh air all the way through it, I use it only for inhaling through my mouth, and then I exhale through my nose into the mud (phlup, phlup, phlup). 8-)
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

For me, a wetsuit lowers the comfort level of the mud by about fifteen degrees. With skin, I'm comfy when the air temperature is in the upper 80's (Fahrenheit) and I'm best when it's over 90. In a wetsuit, though, I was comfy when it was closer to 70.

Unfortunately, wetsuits do interfere with sensation! They're too thick and too tight, and they're hard to get on and off. I've had quite a few guys tell me, though, that they like the way wetsuits look. They aren't wrong about this...the ones I have do seem to photograph pretty nicely.

I used mine for shooting clips this year but for the serious fun, yes, I did change into my less-photogenic but infinitely more comfortable neoprene waders. I have very thin ones and I simply adjust the number of layers of clothing beneath. In these, I can feel the mud globs roll on my skin and when stepping into a mudpit, the mud going up legs can be felt so much more. And instead of only fifteen degrees difference...well, I've gone all the way 'til the mud has a thin layer of ice on it.

Sometimes you gotta toss vanity to the winds.

Interesting replies! Being new to this some of you guys out there are doing things that surprises me a good deal (face first into a mud puddle? Yikes!) Sounds pretty awesome all the same, really can't wait to try sinking one of these days.

Nessie: Saw a couple of your Youtube offerings, that one wetsuit is really neat looking. Never saw one with a zipper like that before! Unfortunately it can be extremely difficult finding a good full one that fits just right, women's sizes on those things aren't exactly generous, but it's great to hear some feedback on what it's like in mud. Admittedly it's that tightness that I love so much, plus I'd think that the cool water flowing around you and the hold of whatever medium you're in at the time could make for a lovely sensation all its own. I know that lycra when wet does some fantastic things, at least. Maybe that'd be a better route to take for this, that stuff gets so clingy when soaked. Really a wonderful sensation!

Man, I really should have gotten into this stuff sooner, pun maybe intended.

I tend to chafe at tightness...but for people who love skintight wear, a wetsuit will certainly fulfill the craving!

Yeah, about that weird zipper...it is supposed to be that way but every time I wear that jacket I catch myself trying to pull things to make the zipper go straight up and down. It drives me totally nuts. I feel like it's all wrong. I didn't get much choice about the style...I got that at a thrift store. People don't donate many wetsuits, but new ones are just terribly pricey and I don't feel right spending that kind of money on an item of clothing that's going...you saw where.

When I wore that jacket for the sumac video, I hit up the camera operator for an opinion. "I think it's the weirdest zipper on Earth and it looks all wrong. What do you think of it?"

He thinks it looks perfectly okay.

Generally, my favorite outfit I like seeing women wearing while sinking in quicksand is often tight, often butt-hugging pants, jeans, etc. and boots. I never really was into nudity that much. There's something that makes me imagine things when they wear tight cloths. That's usually why I love drawing Catherine Willows (From CSI) or Stella Bonasera (From CSI: NY) sinking in quicksand.

It's almost like love and respect for the beauty of women, and equality as being cities, civilization, forests, and beautiful landscapes but on the other hand, quicksand, bondage fanaticism is like the earthquakes, tsunamis, and/or mental plate tectonics that constantly happen all the time. Strange how the mind works. It's almost like yin (quicksand, tied up, hogtied Catherine Willows) and yang (Kanakaredes playing a heroine goddess or Rambo-like heroine). Just my two dollars.

These are some interesting responses. For me, in a quicksand damsel in distress scene, almost anything is okay as long as the woman is showing a lot of leg. I like watching women's legs struggling in quicksand, clay or deep mud. For me, it's all part of the drama. A woman is walking along when she finds she's up to her ankles or the middle of her calves in muck. She's annoyed at first, and tries to pull free. She soon realizes she's stuck. By the time she's in up to her knees, she's wondering 'what is this stuff?', and she's getting scared. When she's in up to the middle of her thighs, she realizes she's sinking and starts to panic.

I do like women in boots or knee-high socks. I really liked the Devil Clown scene with Crystal in that short skirt, sleeveless top, and boots. It would've been ever better for me had there been more of her legs struggling.

I loved Dave Lodoski's "Botany Final" clip with Paris Kennedy and Jessica Marsh in schoolgirl outfits. We got to see plenty of their legs before before and during their sinks.

Someone mentioned doing a police uniform in quicksand. I'll mark that down for a future project.

Rarely do I see scene that I really like that doesn't end in a submersion of some kind. "Botany Final" was that rare scene that I will watch again and again just the way it is. The leg factor is definitely a part of that but I don't think I realized it until just now. Good call. 8-)
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
