I took my kids to the library the other day. Whilst waiting for them to make their minds up (which can take a seriously long time, sometimes) I browsed the kids' shelves idly. One book that caught my eye was Takes of Terror from the Black Ship by Chris Priestly. It's a tale of horror-stories for kids (no - that's not a contradiction. The first stories that children hear are basically horror stories - Little red Riding-Hood, Hansel and Gretel - even the Three Little Pigs).
Anyway. I opened it at random, and one of the stories - Mud - is right up our street. It would be a breach of copyright to attempt to up-load it here - but you could do worse than check it out in an idle moment.

In order to make an apple pie from scratch you first have to create the universe.
