Science fiction quicksand?

I found this by chance and am not sure if it's a quicksand scene in a story or not.

Can you decipher the signature? I can read the copyright date easily enough as 1983 but not the signature. Looks like it begins with a B and ends with Ton, or T on.

Awesome find! John Bolton is the artist. 1985 is the cover year. Back then it would have cost us $1.50, now is $4- $5 depending on the condition you want. It is at the bottom of this link... https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=114651
