My dad had all his albums mostly on 8-track. I can still hear his voice coming out of the basement while dad was working on something. The man could really sing and be funny. One measure of his characters popularity was all the phrases and expressions he contributed to popular speech. At least in my part of the world anyway. For a guy who never wanted to be an actor he put a lot into what was pretty much his only character. Years ago when I spent one year in South Florida I tried speaking Spanish a bit. The Cuban guys would beg me "No Gomer, please. Stick with English." And I was known as "Gomer" while there. Good thing I never tried singing for them. Nice guy. He had a great run.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
