I'm just rescuing my parrot!

Postby Mr Mudster » Mon Aug 13, 2018 6:32 pm

Yep, that's one line I've never used when I've been caught sinking. Makes me think I might need to buy me a parrot for my next time out!

Yep, that mud looked pretty dry so IMO, to get waist deep it that, he had to have worked his way in. The casual observer would not question his explanation. A fake parrot would not be a convincing prop.

Today I kayaked to an old spot to see if it was still viable. It was better than I thought it would be, meaning I sank in quite deep, to my neck in fact. I always ask myself ... what my excuse would be if I got seriously stuck and needed rescue.

How does this sound? ... "I am planning a guided fly fishing trip to Alaska, the guide has told me to practice self extraction from deep river mud. He suggested I do this at least 5 times before the trip."

I cannot imagine the parrot being a prop. to walk thru the mud but I can understand him walking around for a leisurely walk with his parrot but what was he thinking crossing that mud hole with the bird on his shoulder?

According to the article, the parrot flew off his shoulder and into the center of the muddy dredged lake bed, and the man went in to get the bird and then became stuck.
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

I have changed my mind. I now think that attaching a fake parrot to my shoulder might actually be a brilliant prop to take on less-than-private mud sinking outings. I witnessed something extraordinary that has now convinced me that some people are easily fooled by dead animals cleverly attached to the human body.

I was driving through a local city and there were these 3 young guys riding bicycles on the sidewalk. What was odd was that all guys three had pigeons standing on their baseball caps that bounced around while they rode. I told my wife to look at those goofy dudes. She chuckled as we drove past them then said that those must have been pet pigeons. I said, no way, they're fake birds. She said that she saw a wing flapping. I told her that it could have been a fake pigeon with a dangling broken wing. She said that it looked too real.

I then asked her what happens when the pigeon needs to poop. She said the pigeon just waits until the ride is over. Again, some people are easily fooled or just do not take the time to consider what is more likely.

From the article:
"Pour said the man bikes around with the parrot on his shoulder often, but this was the first time they’d run into a problem like this."

I am just guessing here, but it is probably even more rare to have a man riding a bike with a parrot on his shoulder. Not many pirates around either.

So it does sounds like the parrot is real and Boggy Man was spot on.

I am still convinced that a fake or stuffed bird will do well as a prop... just as long as people do not stop you and want to visit with your unusual pet. Or you could stop, and start talking to the parrot pretending to be an animal ventriloquist ... "Polly want a cracker?" That would get them off your case in a hurry.

BTW, I am just kidding around about using a bird as a prop to provide an excuse when caught wading in deep mud.

The town is pretty close to the Mississippi River near St Louis, MO. but in IL. They dredged a small lake in a park.
