I'm interested in hearing about any sinking spots any one may know of in CT or the Southern New England area in general. A couple of spots I knew from years past are no longer "in play". Anyone willing to share? I'd love to feel the ground give way beneath my feet again! (Me: M 48)

Lots of rain and much warmer temps forecast for CT this week. keeping fingers crossed that he ground softens up and the warm weather is here to stay!

I am familiar with the southern Rhode Island coast. There are a lot of spots on the ocean sides of the salt ponds along the coast. Also, Great Swamp Wildlife Management Area near Kingston, RI. Google satellite the areas and see. Good luck

Old Saybrook is not far from me. Hell yeah I'll take directions!

A. Park along bridge on Elm and wade to sinking location S.
or
B. Park at back of Ames Shopping Center and kayak upstream to sinking location S. going under Amtrak bridge.

S. Sinking location has spots > 6 ft deep when exposed by low tide.

Very private covered by lots of high bushes and reeds. Good depth of water for cleanup.
I used this location for 6 years before moving to a new state.
Wear foot protecton and be careful of glass in water near Elm St bridge if wading.

Clark Field is close and is used by local fire departments so keep your role playing quiet or your may attract some unwanted heros to save you.
Amtrak and MetroNorth trains pass ever 20 to 30 mintues so that could be a problem for anyone recording video.

When you get bored or the tide covers up the best sinking holes you can do some crabbing. I pulled an average of 10-40 lbs of blue crabs late in the summer every year from this same spot. Makes a great excuse or cover for why you are playing in mud if someone happens by on a kayak.

This is not that far from me - so if anyone does go exploring and finds this location still in top condition, please let me know (message, email, etc.) - Ludella Hahn and Leila Hazlett have been asking me about quicksand shoots this summer and this would be a perfect spot to film some scenes. I'd go down myself, but I don't have a free weekend till mid-June, which is when I hope to be actually shooting.

Thanks for the information, directions and pictures. I will try to get out that way and at least take a look around the area to get a feel for the area. It's not far from me but I don't normally get out that way. Thanks again for the help and info!
