Well, I decided to try out a spot not too far from my house. The mud is a dark, almost black, clay. It was only about 2' (60cm) deep, but in retrospect I'm glad it wasn't deeper!
It was so uncomfortably hot that I spent only a few minutes playing before heading out to a place to rinse off about 1/4 mile (~425m) away. With the air temperature staying well over 100F (38C) and at times hitting 110F (43C) it made the mud unbearably hot! Even well below the surface the mud was extremely uncomfortable.
I'm the kind of guy that can play in the mud when the air temperature is 50F (10C), but I have a hard time with the heat.
The best part though was during my walk back to the water the sun was making me sweat profusely. So I asked Odin to send some clouds to help out. He did (although Loki played hide and seek with the sun for a short time!), and it made my walk back to the water much more pleasant!
Hot hot hot!
