quarry help?

so word on the street is quarry mud is some of the best stuff out there. turns out there's a fair amount of quarries i've seen, but now im confused about one some things... mainly, what kinda of quarry are would you guys suggest? there's different kinds, like i mostly see "crushed stone", "sand", and "gravel", but i did notice one "clay and brick" too. so which kind do you think has that thick, clean, smooth quarry mud that i've seen and heard of. also, how do you find pits of it, deep ones, if such a great thing exists?

There is a Quarry in the city that I live in that is a cement plant. That pit has some real deep creamy clay to sink in but I would warn you that you would be trespassing since it is private property.

The quarries I go to most often for the deepest, smoothest mud you can possibly imagine (see links to my videos below) are sand/gravel or concrete. I think the mud we all like to bathe in is actually leftover slurry residue after the sand/gravel is "harvested" ... The mud pits I go to are *not* fenced off, they are actually accessible by a running path that goes right next to them.

Your odds of a given quarry actually having some sort of creamy clay mud are actually very small even if you are adept at selecting only those that have the greatest likelihood of having mud. The most basic thing is that there needs to be a lot of clay in the formation that they are excavating, crushing stone from, or washing out to get the gravel to sell. So, always, there needs to be some sort of washing operation, which is actually not all that common. Most quarries have a crushing operation but if they don't wash the crushers fines out into a pond, no mud. So, you're looking for washing operations in areas where there is clay in the strata they're excavating.

If the odds of a given quarry are 1-in-100, then properly selecting where to look based on the presence of a washing operation, clay in what they're washing, something that looks like a settling pond for the clay slurry using satellite imagery, and maybe a favorable drive by so that you see evidence of dredging of wet slop, well, all of that will only lower your odds to about 1-in-10. So, the secret is to do your research, live in or search in the right parts of the country, be patient, and keep trying, you should eventually get lucky...

Then comes the fun part, figuring out how to get at it discretely...

and to mudxdresser, thanks so much. that was some pretty useful information. it confirmed most of what i thought to look for, good to know i was on the right track.
so how can you tell if there's going to be a washing operation thingy there? see, im using google maps/earth to scan satellite images of possible locations. what would a washing area look like? im thinking something like a pond obviously, but is there any other clues like certain equipment or landmarks that are associated with washing? and when i search for locations online im just using the word "quarry" or "mining" to find places, but that seems kinda vague. so is there another more specific or descriptive word / phrase i can use that would bring up more and better places?

.....hmm, i also spotted this quarry near by and a few features perked my interest. you can see what looks like a body of water. plus the fact that there's a label right by it that says "Slurry Pavement Systems". the word "slurry" sounds like something worth looking in to ^_^
