Hey,

I've been a member of the QS community since about 1997. I've been off on personal business for the past 6 years and haven't kept up. About a month ago I started visiting the community again. I was surprised to find much has changed and that the community seems to have gotten smaller. Kaol's site is gone, deepsinking seems dead, Downunder hasn't updated in sometime, same for Black Squirrel. What happened? The QS community was a thriving place. QSFan seem's to be the only place still running (and doing a great job.) There are still some video sites, but the community as a whole seems to have fell off.

I know things change, but this saddens me. Can anyone explain what's happened?

It's sad I know. It's just the change of times. Hell I just logged in for the first time in... I'd say 6 months, after running with the wrong crowd. I just took the ASVAP about a week ago and will soon be jointing the US Navy in about 6 months (waiting period).
It's a combination of a lot of things. The economy... Mostly the economy... I haven't been on because I just haven't felt that need to. And after almost dying out on a tidal flat and not being able to find mud any deeper than my knee, my fetish has kinda... What's the word?
It kinda just flew away. I matured a bit more. My lust for mud... Just flew away. And I don't know if anyone else here has kinda lost that spark but I have
When I joined... About a year ago the site was always busy, and even before that when I was coming to this site when I was 16 (and yes I'll admit that only because it was so long ago) in 2009 there was always a bunch of people on. The last time I remember getting on was when I looked to see if the O-Girl Struggle Sand Video was up, and before that was when I got freaked out cause Duncan Edwards posts were missing (I really did freak out I was wtfing left and right).
There is no way this site would ever shut down though. Qs fans will hopefully be here till I retire from the Navy.

Things have consolidated a bit. We also don't have to have mass community efforts to locate and post "Hollywood" scenes. Things are a lot easier now than they used to be and while I'd love to see more discussion I don't think we are necessarily any worse off than before. If you'd been around more you would have seen that happening and it wouldn't be such a surprise.

While the type of activity may have changed I think you are wrong about the community getting smaller. It i very true that sites have disappeared but new ones have been created as well. Look arouond.

I'd like to encourage you to come around more often and participate. Ironic that you haven't been around in years to see things going on and your first post is about how things are changing. That is followed by someone who hasn't previously made a post since December. Join the party and things will look much better.

As for said advice, I have looked around and that's the thing, one must go on a quest to locate qs sites. I may have been away for awhile, but my memory is sound. In the old days, especially during the glory days of Wamsat, everything was linked. The community was much more cohesive. As it stands thing's seem scattered. To be sure Youtube and such make it easier to locate qs films and the like, but that's only part and parcel.

This being said, please don't take this as an attack on the community. Mr. Edwards and others have carried the torch well.

As an engineer I'm not in the habit of sitting back and just talking. I "put up" as it were. So this post won't just be another "wah wah" post. I'm going to do my part as I did in the past. I've always contributed to the community and now that I'm back, I'll do so again and then some. Expect stories from me very soon. Futhermore, I've initiated an endeavor that I hope will return some of the missing cohesive nature of the glory days. I'll comment on that in another post.

Thank you to those who have remained the gaurdians of the mire, this community has always been an escape, and I appreciate your steadfastness.

While it's true that there are fewer sites, the community has become more centralised. Indeed, I pretty much only go to this forum to share QS content; whereas in the past the bulk of the QS pages were maintained by individuals who gathered content from other contributors.

Thank you JagFiles, I've been surfing the wayback machine for inspiration.

I hope people don't take me as some nostalgic fool though. I'm not trying to recreate the past. I'm an engineer, we look to the future; attempt to evolve as it were.

Viridian, you are correct that this board play's a large role in the community. I certainly like it better then Deepsinking. It's the kind of forum we need. As I recall someone attempted a forum like this awhile back, but it faded away. Glad someone else tried again.

I would say that the forum brought everyone together, to one central location. It's easier this way - if my own life is comparable to others' then I seem to have less time than I ever have, certainly less time than in the past. With QSFans a person can post and interact without the need to maintain a website, even a free one, let alone pay for the service. It's also much faster to have discussions, discover new scenes and learn of upcoming releases. You don't have to check out a myriad of far-flung websites just drop by QSF. I'd be surprised if the community has shrunk much if at all, it's just found its "favorite watering hole" so to speak.
