How long did Tarzan watch before deciding to save Jill..?

If I had to guess the reason she's the only one we've found is that humans, even primitive ones, would be smart enough not to get stuck in the first place.
If they were harvesting the tar for water proofing they would be familiar enough with the pits to avoid the dangerous spots.
They probably also would have gone harvesting in group, so there would be help if one of the group did manage to stick themselves.
Or hey, maybe she was the first of us? Poor thing just couldn't resist taking a dip and got more than she bargained for.

I'd always heard her described as the "Murdered La Brea Woman" due to her damaged skull.

Yeah, they mentioned that possibility in the clip as well, but then somebody came along later and said it was more likely do to the natural shifting of the pit over time that caused the fracture. I guess we'll never really know for sure.
