Thats not what I meant with my posts, please don't get defensive.

The scene from a movie with the little girl trapped in a room that was slowly filling up with a mud like liquid until she nearly drowned, started a huge debate, I was just guessing thats what caused the rule changes, not long after.

Those events were close in time, but the debate about that scene wasn't the reason. That's what Duncan says, and he knows it in detail.

By the way, the people who protested against that scene weren't those who changed the policy of DeepSinking. They were those (or some of those) who created this board. That scene, by the way, is not permitted here (underage character) but permitted at DeepSinking (nothing sexual).

As well it should be. There are forums started by less experienced QSers that have let this go by the wayside.

I hope we maintain this tradition as a community for the long term.

P.S.: DS also does not allow fatal sequences involving underage charaters. I support this as well.

Sorry, I don't understand to which part of the text quoted by you you refer here and which forums you mention.

I don't know what happened to DS but as far as I'm concerned, DS died years ago. I don't wish to dredge up a previous memory but I had a horrible, horrible falling out with that forum in late 2006 and could no longer participate in a forum that got increasingly Draconian and almost mob-like. Nobody on THE QSFans forum that I know of contributed to it but others, who I'm not aware are here, posted incredibly rude and hurtful remarks not only at my work but others' work as well. That, and the Draconian way the moderators became caused me to leave DS in late 2006. Others may debate what happened afterward but as far as I'm concerned, DS died in 2006.

I drew a major QS artwork at least a couple times a week in 2005-ish and loved sharing it, even if it was crude (As in drawn by a newbie artist) and, 2-D at best. After what I went through with DS, I didn't draw any more QS work for over a year afterward and switched to other fetishes which I do have. I'm not going to say who caused all of that grief but I've forgiven all of them but nevertheless was glad to finally see DS meet it's end.

I do thank QS Fans and it's moderators for reviving my love of QS again. :)

That was not an isolated incident.

By the time that forum "fell", I was very angry that the mods did not seem to think that flagrant taunting of other members was a serious matter.

Everything a person posts that they have created themselves on a forum like this is something they are sharing -- with people they don't even know -- about a thing that is highly likely to be very personal. What that creativity is really saying to the world is this:

"This is I think/fantasize/feel about quicksand".

The proper response to personal disclosure is not "critique". It is respect.

Been avoiding this thread, but I guess I might as well chime in. I also recall that there was a group of "gimmes" and complainers who were never happy with the way DS was run, whether it was moderation or content. I was of the opinion that it was JT's playground (and thanks to Duncan and Foster, now that I know you two were also involved), it was wonderful and free, and the proper attitude was gratitude and respect. I also recall commenting that if anybody didn't like the way DS was run, they were free to go start their own QS forum. For better or for worse, that's what happened. :|

I have lots of great memories of DS, especially of Sinking Island. Even my Lady Wife (Weredragonlady) used to hang out in chat occasionally. Lots of people didn't realize the sheer amount of work that went into creating and maintaining that system. Whenever I see a white bathrobe, it takes me back. :) Thanks again, JT, wherever you are, and I'm sorry Ostara called you a code monkey once.

Is anybody interested in holding a Sinking Island reunion? We could do it in the chatroom here at QSF, or maybe a hangout party on Google Plus. Video chat-think of the possibilities. . .

I agree with Nessie and Whizbang.

I've always thought whenever someone makes the effort to post stories/artwork/photos, they should be recognized for the effort, not pummeled into the ground with snide comments. Fortunately, here, that is not a problem, something the moderators here should be thanked for. :)

Honest constructive criticism is one thing, (and if asked for, if only to be polite), but just tearing something up which folks have put their heart into is just being mean for the sake of being mean. It also takes the fun out of it for the rest of us.

There's enough of that crap in the rest of the world...

Besides, without contributors, and the folks who make sure we all play nice, there wouldn't be a forum. And that would be a pity.

@nacht: If it weren't for my now rather busy social schedule these days, in contrast to those halcyon days, I might be interested. Instead, I kind of figure that whatever day it got set for would wind up conflicting with my social schedule.

A big part of why I left DS was because of the shift in policy regarding "adult" material, which I presume was in part because they decided it would be easier to police against that than to try to keep the underage out. Especially given some of what they'd have to try to pay attention to in terms of keeping the "adult" areas from crossing some serious lines. I can easily understand that. The other part, for me, was some definite emotional trauma from a tangentially related direction that caused me to walk away from online fetish worlds, until I could get my head put back together.

Since we started to express our opinions about DeepSinking.org I may add my one, too.

I never left DeepSinking. As many others, I am a member both here and there. For me, DeepSinking before the change of policy and the following exodus was the better place to stay. It was rather comfortable and covered many of my interests. Now I am somewhere between today DeepSinking and QuicksandFans, visiting both places, but mostly hanging out at DeviantArt.

dk_angel7 mentioned other QS forums, but I don't know what he was speaking about. I don't know any other places. FantasyDangerIsland appeared and vanished, DevilClown's community appeared and vanished, YAHOO QS groups either have died or are dying out now, Sticky-Site is now resurrected but QS never was a main topic there. What I missed? Downunder in the Jungle is accessible but wasn't updated since 2009, IndeX's awesomecoreQUICKSAND also wasn't updated for ages, and many galleries are removed. I don't know if QSA/UberGaijin's works are exposed somewhere in the Internet. I don't know if Mirador's awesome renderings are accessible anywhere. I didn't mention gay communities - they are beyond the scope of my interests. I suppose there may be interesting communities speaking other languages. But from what I could hear from German, Spanish, and French speaking people who are here, there is virtually nothing in those languages. There is a YAHOO group in Spanish, and it is not very active. There was a French WAM forum, I even registered there (I don't speak French :( ), but there was not much of what I could be interested in. Anything in German? There are people from Hungary, Czech republic, Finland, the Netherlands here - I am pretty sure they don't have their national communities. I can tell you for sure that there is no such Ukrainian community. There were several attempts to make something in Russian, but it always were one-two-three guys and their forums disappeared (actually, they were focused at either WAM or rubber boots).

Sorry for a long ranting. The summary is, this place is virtually the only one really active QS forum. What is sad, because more diversity would be really good. And on my opinion for several last years the community is rather collapsing than spreading. :(
