Duke Nukem Forever

Postby Mynock » Sat Jun 25, 2011 7:59 pm

*zips up after pissing in the Cycloid Emperor's empty eye socket*
So who wants to bet on how many years it'll take the next one to come out?
Seriously, it was fun.
There's enough of a story to keep you interested but not so much of one that it takes away from the ass kicking. Gameplay is entertaining, especially the interactivity. I spent an hour in the strip club ogling strippers while playing air hockey and pinball. I literally lol'd when I gained a health bonus by taking a piss. Did a couple of curls with a 100lb dumbell then implanted it in some poor guys face....haha.
Firepower is plentiful and varying, anything from laser guns to that old mainstay, the 12 gauge pump. I found myself switching weapons just for the fun of it and not because I was out of ammo. And of coarse, there's the horrible, tacky, one liners that make you remember how fun it was to be 13....it wouldn't be Duke Nukem without them.
Oh, and did I mention the strip club? Yea, I did, but I'll mention it again: Strip Club.
My one and only complaint is the graphics. DX9.0c? Really? And yet somehow even as outdated as they are framerates still manage to get choppy in places. WTF?
To the critics who bashed the hell out of it: What, exactly, were you expecting? An Oscar worthy plot? The need to be strategic? Did you want to spend 20 minutes playing with your inventory before every battle? Yea I thought so. Go back to playing WoW and leave the shooters to the real gamers.
What else is there to say? It's Duke. It's classic. It's awesome. Furthermore, after 12 FUCKING YEARS I finally got to play it!!!!! :D

I honestly don't get the reviews, Gearbox just took a 2004 game and finished it, it was exactly as I expected it, an outdated but fun game, and I can't wait for the next one!

Yeah I really enjoyed it too. It was such a nice change of pace from the current trend of FPS games that I ended up going back and playing through Doom 3 and Prey (2 more outstanding but underrated games from the last decade if you haven't played them).

I heard it's quite bad on consoles. I played it on PC with everything on max settings and it looked great, because I hear from reviews that there are graphics problems with the console ports?

^^Been a fan of Duke ever since that came out. First game I ever played on a PC.

It looks fine (except it's not DX11 :x ) on PC, I'm playing with everything maxed out too, but I've got a EVGA GTX 580 SC edition in my machine....can't figure out why I'm getting poor FPS that card should slaughter this game even with everything turned all the way up.
The console porting did not go well at all apparently. The graphics are terrible and the levels take forever to load. Definitely best played on a PC.

Yeah I also played it on PC, loading times were fine.

The port job probably went so bad because this game and game engine was when the Ps3 and xbox 360 did not even exist.

It uses the Unreal Engine 2.5, which is used in games like Bioshock. It's not the engines fault!

I think there main mistake is that they should've known that $60 price tag would've been too much. This game would've been perfect as a $30 download.

Almost all of the PC games on the market are overpriced. I was looking forward to the "Portal" release, until I saw that it was also sitting at $60. I'm just not willing to fork over that much cash to play a game.

So I'll just wait for a year or two for games like Portal and DNF to hit the bargain bins. Then I'll pick 'em up for $15!

^^Good deal. I don't wait that long myself but unless it's something that I'm REALLY looking forward to (Like DNF) I've learned never to buy a game on the day it's released, especially now that Steam exists. Wait a week and you can get as much as 50% off.
