How come in every Godzilla film I've seen a vast amount of tank shells,mortar rounds and machine-gun rounds are fired into the creature AT CLOSE RANGE(!),and he just shakes them off. In real life a flesh and blood creature would be decimated by such firepower,no matter how tough it's hide might be. At the end of said films these very same ammunition rounds prove to be the creature's undoing.P.S. I still get a great thrill out of watching them. Tis a point to ponder.

It happens that way because that is what it says in the script.

Silicon based organism. He's basically a living rock.
Solves a lot of science problems like how is he bullet proof, how does he eat radiation, how does his body not simply collapse inder its own weight, etc. Ever notice how the fins on his back kind of look like giant crystals?

I remember a few guys in residence who were real jerks about that. If a movie had a scene of two people fighting while a bomb ticks down, they would loudly time it with their watches, and state "The bomb already went off! What a stupid movie!" Stuff like that.

Sometimes, one just has to go with it.... like whenever a puddle filled with leaves sucks pretty ladies down to their doom...

Regenerator G-1. It took until about the turn of the century before Japanese science was advanced enough to identify its existence and understand its operation, which is why it wasn't explained in earlier documentaries.

Agreed. Sometimes I wonder if the inability to suspend disbelief, and/or the insistence on complete consistency from scene to scene, episode to episode, or prequel to sequel is not an indication of something missing in the loft.

I don't demand scientific perfection but I do like my Sci-Fi to be at least plausible. Although I guess that depends on you knowledge level. If you're going to invent a monster that's 100 stories tall spits fire and feeds off nuclear isotopes.......yea I need at least a general explanation of how that works.

I am not a Godzilla movie fan but keep in mind that their origin is the 1950's. This is true, more or less, for many if not most of the domestic over-sized creature movies. It is my understanding that the general (at least implied) "explanation" of such creatures was the effects of radiation from nuclear fallout (or sometimes just other pollution. [I almost wrote "mutational effects" but then I remembered that the structure of DNA and the mechanisms of mutation was very recent knowledge then.]

If we insist on plausibility that can survive scientific challenge then Star Trek and Star Wars are pretty much non-starters.

Which Godzia are you referring to? If I remember right, only one has it where Godzilla actually dies. In that one, she actually avoided everything that wasn't small arms fire. At the point where she died, she was on the bridge (tangled I believe. It's been a while since I have watched it.) so they had a stationary target to hit. Godzilla was just too nimble otherwise.
