True but here the subject matter does matter.

Well the point I'm trying to make is that the world, the technology, has changed. Again. People don't congregate in chat rooms or even at specific websites like this one. Many users, if not most, don't even sit down at a pc any longer. The "chat" like distractions have become part of everyday life for many without even realizing it.

I don't think we disagree at all on that. On the other hand I think we know that we are a minority. Certainly there are SOME people left who like to chat for its own sake.

Probably but I get the feeling, and that's all it is, those numbers may have dwindled to a level below critical mass needed to support such a thing in a public forum.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Pretty much a direct quote of what I said earlier. As we do not have a chat here, unfortunately, we may never know.

I occasionally do roleplaying/chat with individuals - usually women who would like to star in one of my videos but are unable to do so for a variety of reasons (too shy, or busy, can't be seen doing this type of thing, or too far away, etc.). We would chat about their roles in the videos, what they could expect sinking, etc. I've also done it with men, but not as often.

Like others have mentioned, I don't usually use "chat rooms" preferring to use other technology.

One of the things I really liked (and I think quite a few others did as well) about Sinking Island was the bar-restaurant theme and the accompanying support for very light role-playing. I liked that part so much that I built it into the JungleLand Bar and Grill chat room when I had that built. I thought is supported the sort of relaxed atmosphere one can find in a local English pub or in the kind of bar where most everyone is a regular but is very supportive and welcoming when new people come in. For example, one could (and can) order food and drink items from a menu and have them delivered (at SI by a waiter and at the B&J by a waitress). Many of the "actions" one could do as far back as the IRC channel rooms were (and are) also supported and some with variations on the IRC originals. The B&J room even has a trail system that leads to various things. Some of those things are interactive with the visitor but do not support role pay or dialogue among visitors. That kind of programming is more than I can perform.

I fear, and regret, that our economy seems to be such that everything seems to have to tend toward what the majority appears to want, even when keeping other things in existence would cost little or nothing. Personally I'd like to take the back roads from time to time while most everyone else takes the interstate.

Did a great role play last night with the classic "Krull" quicksand scene as the backdrop.
It was awesome... love quicksand role play with my wife!

Wow, sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to get in on that too!
