These really work in artwork and still photography, but I find are notoriously difficult to get right in live action. They either linger too long, or disappear too quickly. One way which works for me is if the victim grabs a branch or something, and slowly takes it down with them, like Tarzan and the Amazons where one of the sinking dudes drags down the vine with flowers.
But, I do appreciate the effort.
The second comic, you label as "Scarlet goes under...", do you have the rest of it? Be curious to see what led to up to just her hand above the surface...

It has been posted before, but it's a goodie, so I doubt anyone would object...

Couple more... I've always maintained a show of hands - or hand - remains the perfect end to a quicksand scene...
From Witch's Tales. One is from the original 1950s one, the other a reprint with new art (1970s). Both are awesome. The 1950s one was originally in color, but I found a black and white version.

A classic! I like the original better, but both are good.

Thinking the same thing. Love the older artwork and the fabulous doomed babe. Thanks for posting these.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Re: The hands have it...
There was a clip, posted somewhere on here, that really featured a hand going slowly under. I think the movie had to do with convicts escaping from prison. By the time of the quicksand scene, we're down to two men. One steps into quicksand, the other cannot save him, and watches in terror as the first gets sucked under. His hand, stretching upwards, spasms and twitches then becomes still, but continues to sink at the same slow rate until it goes under. The word "melodrama" featured either in the comments or the thread title.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I quite agree.
On a side note, I love the old supernatural/haunted swamp angle. Never gets old with me.

This photo really caught my eye .....

And then, I just couldn't resist raising (and sinking) my own muddy hands to this occasion!
