Making quicksand at the beach??

Heading to the beach soon with my way better half ... she doesn't seem opposed to doing a beach scenario with her sinking in the sand.
I have two thoughts on how to do this:

1- do almost a stop action type of thing - have her act stuck. "stop Video" dig 1 foot hole, start again then "stop video" dig to 2 feet etc.

2 has anyone had success with burying a cardboard box, cover with sand, and having her sink slowly into the box- with maybe stopping video once in a while to adjust the sand on top?

Any input would be appreciated.

A cardboard box will not support the weight of the sand and might be dangerous.

I live by the beach. It really depends on the tides, the type of sand, the topography, etc. Usually the beach itself is not great for sinking but some back bays are with tidal mud especially around here in NJ. You just have to be really careful with the tides. A good idea may be to just dig a hole a few feet deep first close but not to close to the ocean, Fill the hole with some loose sand and water and have your better half step in. In may be a lot of trial and error, but easy access to everything. There are a few times when I was on the beach and at low tide you could get knee deep or even a little deeper. There are some beaches in the southeast probably or in other countries where you can really sink at the beach, but I would be really careful just due to the tides. Have fun!

Was thinking away from the water where the tides don't rise that high... easier to dig and work with

thought a 2ft by 3ft area on top, with 2 to 3ft deep... Cover the top area with plastic wrap to make it a little sturdy with a couple of inches of sand on top - she would have to gently work her way through the plastic wrap ... etc

Might work. Six square feet and one-sixth of a foot deep means you have one cubic foot of sand. Completely dry that should be approximately 100 pounds. I don't think that would be dangerous used as you describe so long as the sand around the sides of the box is stable without the box.

Sorry saw this a little late:

1. "Stop video" is pretty easy and much less chance of a dangerous situation depending on how deep you dig the hole. Never dig a hole deep enough for her to have her head under the level surface of the sand. Never dig or put her in a dry sand hole. The edges are too unstable. Don't dig a hole deeper then her waist.

2. I would not use a cardboard box. Use a large beach ball partially deflated so she can stand on it and that you can open the valve to allow the rest of the air to go out while she is standing on it. You can use a tarp with a slit in the middle to cover the hole supported by a large piece of cardboard with a hole in that for her to sink between. A submerging shot is quite tricky. If she can stoop down she might be able to get her head down under the tarp. The trouble with this is that the tarp will probably show.

Above all I would not do this without a supporting crew of three to four able bodied people ready to handle any emergency.
