Tales from the Crypt Quicksand Scene

Postby Palinov Jensen » Wed Jan 17, 2018 11:55 pm

Until a few days ago, I didn't know an episode of Tales from the Crypt had a quicksand scene! The name of the episode is Til Death.

The fun begins here https://youtu.be/-8p3Goldguo?t=4m15s *blup* *blup*

I liked that, and there is a grim amusement to the whole episode... loved how his corpse bride hauls him out of the quicksand as if to say "You ain't getting away that easily...." :D

The original Vault of Horror comic of 'Til Death which this is based on is a better story, and I found it much more frightening in its implications than the HBO version which camps it up. No quicksand, though...

Off topic, but you've just reminded me of the time I read an EC comic book in high school, I don't know if it was Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, or Haunt of Fear. Anyway, years later, I saw an episode of Tales From the Crypt and thought to myself, "I know I've never seen this episode before, but this seems strangely familiar!" I was super confused! It wasn't until the end of the episode that I realized I read the original story first, which is why the episode seemed so familiar to me. I had a good laugh after that.

I wonder if any of those EC horror comics has a quicksand scene. I know there's an issue of Tales From the Crypt that has a quicksand scene on the cover.

That reminds me too of another older Tales from the Crypt.
Older meaning maybe about 20yrs ago.
I don't remember much about it, other than a guy takes a book or money from an old lady that owns a mansion.
he runs off and not watching where he's going and ends up sinking in quicksand on her property.

Was this from an EC Comics Tales from the Crypt reprint comic or from the TV show?

That reminds me of a comic I read ages ago, but the old lady was poor, it was during the Medieval period, and it was a taxman that was taking from her. She then told him about a story about a deadly woodsman, and after he left, he saw "the woodsman", and hid behind the bushes, accidentally dropping something the woodsman then picked up (the stuff he took from the lady?). While hiding behind the bushes, the tax man looked down and was horrified. Then it showed that the woodsman was actually related to the woman (perhaps her son?), and wasn't deadly, and he told her that he found the item beside the old quicksand pool. It doesn't look like the taxman would be bothering her any more. It then showed the taxman's arm/hand sticking out of the quicksand, going down.
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

That was from Boris Karloff's comic Tales of Mystery. I think it even may be called The Axman Cometh? Something like that...

In fact, I'll post in on another thread... :D

This scene was always a disappointment to me. Too dark and too fast, and he gets pulled out too easily. :(
