Saw this movie the other day on Escape. In it Joanna Kerns plays a seismologist who wants to warn the city of an imminent earthquake. During a television interview she mentions soil liquefaction. When asked what that is she responds " it turns to quicksand!"
Escape tends to re-run these a lot so it'll probably be on again.

I would LOVE to see Joanna Kerns in shake-induced QS
But all I get are buildings and freeway viaducts
Old news around here in the S.F. bay area though. Liquefaction during a shaker brought down a few structures in 1906 and more recently in the '89 "Worlds Series" quake.
Sometimes sand even boils up like a water fountain by the quake, or flows up from a water seep.

Here's an old video from 2011 you've probably seen, but I think it demonstrates how liquefaction could occur.- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzlodnjPAuc

In a related movie San Andreas, I wish they had Alexandra Daddario sink in quicksand. She was in so many perilous situations in the movie. I wish they included quicksand also.
