Wasn't there a movie called "The Devil At Four O'Clock" in which a bunch of convicts get drafted into rescuing a load of children from an island in French Polynesia in which some of them fall into quicksand and all but one (Gregoire Aslan) gets rescued? I recall that Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy were in it too. The "Disaster" in the film was that the whole island was about to be blown off the face of the Earth by a massive volcanic eruption.
"Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Quicksand! I'm sinking! I'll go straight to the bottom of.......GLURP!"
(a month later)
"Ugh! Yukkkh! Ptui! I'm out of it! I'm free! Not even quicksand can defeat the power of.....the Eye of Zoltec!"

A small earthquake hits a _____ beach town ( You fill in where it's at.) No structural damage, but it ruptures an underground spring and causes the entire beach to become a giant quicksand pool.
Just a thought I never did anything with. Consider it public domain.
Your idea is better than mine!
