What's type of mud, which you are prefer? And why? What is from that has a most 'sucking' effect?
Clay, peat, black mud at river banks, heavy ooze of dried lakes or ponds, bog mud, forest gray mud, real quicksands/watering sands of bays or banks, farm mud? Or maybe something others?
What's your likest place/type of mud?

Re: What's your likest place/type of mud?
Basic answer is -yes please!- My preference would be for silt ponds in clay or gravel pits .Deep,of varying consistencies & usually free from branches, rocks & anything else that might spoil a sink Have had a lot of fun & excitement in river mud & mud flats but little experience of peat bogs-Waist deep maximum so far. Have not,yet ,found any serious quicksand but would like to try the ultimate "stuck" sensation which I am told they give one

Any mud is good mud ... (Any BTO fans out there? You ain't seen nothing yet

I saw these guys in concert. That dates me as old as mud. Sorry for getting off track. I can't help myself.
Where I sink it is mainly the black river mud along the stream bank and exposed mud flats. I have found it deep to the point were I cannot get deeper than my shoulders/neck. When the mud is just starting to become exposed, once it is worked a little, I can almost swim in it.
When I was a kid I played in an abandoned brickyard and the clay there was absolutely fantastic. This is probably were my fetish started. I continue to scout for this kind of mud and have a location in mind but the water level needs to drop some as it is 300 miles one-way.
As far as suction ... when the same river mud described above starts to dry out a little it is extremely sticky. I wade through the wetter stuff easily then get seriously stuck in the dryer stuff. I have to be careful not to get a leg or foot cramp when trying to get out.
I have never been in peat but would definitely like to try that.
I believe that I have experienced true quicksand i.e. fine sand that packs tight once you stop moving. This was in a gravel quarry in the wash pond. It was one of my first sinks and I was very inexperienced so I only went knee deep. I have no immediate plans to return there. Kind of dangerous to do alone and the T word helps shut me down on this.
Thanks for the question barefooter.

Re: What's your likest place/type of mud?
What I like is mostly illegal. I like quarries but accessing them usually involve trespassing. I had been going to them for
30 years and haven't been caught yet although I've had to hide from security guards a couple of times. Quarry mud is
usually creamy, "cleaner" and deeper than I am tall. I usually go in naked except for tennis shoes. I cut my foot earlier
in my mud exploring days and I needed stitches and a tetanus shot. There was a place under an underpass that very nice
tidal mud. I once went there at night (I almost always go mudding at night) when there were men working on the underpass.
Not to be deterred I went in anyway. The work lights were facing the right way and even though i was sinking just 20 feet
away they had no idea I was there. Unfortunately, family concerns has caused me to have to move to Arizona where any mud
is hard to come by.

Nice!!! Almost as me too!!! I like nice deep clay mud and go to my sinking place naked... Absolutely, with no shoes also... But I prefer day/dawn time... And same problems with trespassing)))))

Peat bog for me. Especially the types found around lakes or in valleys.
I have a couple of these around me and some spots are pure gold! Below the thin crust of vegation is pure, thick bottomless mud that can swallow you and hold you in place. Popping back up to the surface? No way!!
I'm also rather near to the coast of the Waddensea and sometimes visit the mudflats there. There are some really soft and deep spots there and that mud is strong! Clings everywhere and hard to wash off. I swamped my hip-waders there just for fun and barely managed to keep them on. Getting them off later was a real challenge
I also did visit raised bogs in past. These are not that good for stuck-action. When breaking through the spongy layer of moss there is deep water below and not much mud.

Re: What's your likest place/type of mud?
My favorite would be the thickest black mud from a marsh or forest bog. I found a few of these spots near wetlands and marshes surrounded by vegetation and often it could be a small patch maybe 8' by 8' and with luck I have been able to walk in and pump my legs and often get up to my chest and always a plus when the mud talks to you and the escape is difficult
