Women loved him. Guys wanted to be him. His movies were the stuff of redneck religion from White Lightning, Gator, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper, Canon Ball Run, and a personal favorite, the lesser known W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings. People might make a big deal out of Deliverance or Boogie Nights but that was just Burt being a the great actor he could be but they weren't Burt Reynolds Movies. I sat on a fence in 1975 and watched Burt and stunt director Hal Needham shoot the gas station robbing scene for W.W.D.D. west of Nashville. One of the two chicken trucks that show up about five times in the scene didn't flip the chicken cages correctly. A couple of the chickens didn't fare too well and hilarity ensued off camera as the ruined yard-birds were offered to Colonel Sanders at KFC. (You had to be there) I realized then that the Burt Reynolds on camera didn't appear too much different from the guy you saw on the screen. On top of that he had played football and been on Gunsmoke. What a supremely cool guy.

Most of his movies ended with out takes which really showed that all he did was get his friends together and somehow a movie got made - Here's a great example - Outtakes from CannonBall Run

RIP Burt........say hi to Jerry Reed for us.
My dad had a '77 Trans Am decked out just like the original Bandit car. I still occasionally hear about how it's my fault he had to sell it cause my car seat didn't fit in the back.

Buddy of mine's brother, back in high school, had a gold TA 6.6 (403 cubic inch).
The thing was a beast.

Just watched both Cannonball movies.
The man, the moustache... and that silly giggle, will be missed.
(Personally, I think he should have won an Oscar for Boogie Nights)

I'll always remember his appearing in a rather famous and creepy movie.. Deliverance... squeal like a pig.....
