the thought of russel crowe sinking in a bog is a huge turn on,. but for a relatively big budget film that "dirty water with some floaty bits on top" was a total disgrace

That's probably why it got cut. Doesn't take a fetishist to see that it just doesn't work on several levels beyond just the consistency of the bog.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.
