Lets get some locations for the Quicksand Map

Postby Wario » Fri Jan 18, 2019 3:04 pm

Lets get some locations of quicksand from users and mpv for the new updated advanced quicksand map!

follow the instructions on using the editable map or the quicksand location submission form.

We need some desert clay and standard clay locations not effected by tide!

we need some locations of quarries that don't mind if quicksand lovers enter their sludge pools

We need some quicksand and mud locations for nebraska and kansas. There pretty much empty for quicksand on this map!

It would be great to find some quarries that we all could leagally enter and play around in. I’d guess this is asking a lot, but does this exist? Would there be a way to develop a relationship with a quarry owner to allow for some sinking?

I'd put the odds of something like that as being just marginally better than being struck by lightning while winning the lottery after being kissed by Dolly Parton. If anyone has such a setup they definitely are not going to announce the location to the world.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

An active quarry is a real workplace. Lots of machinery and lots of regulations. Save the insurances :(
In case your best friend runs a quarry and is also into mudding, you may be lucky. Otherwise i don't believe something like that is possible.

I know of one (1) (a single) (one and only one, no more) instance where negotiating with a quarry owner got somebody into the quarry mud.

Since it has happened (at least once), there is nothing to stop anyone from calling up the quarry owner to ask. It could happen again.

But I wouldn't bet on it.

Getting permission hasn't been possible in decades due to creative lawyers figuring out ways to bypass things like agreements not to sue in return for access. And, as mentioned, beyond that, no insurance company is going to allow access to a bottomless mudpit without cancelling the quarry's policy. EPA regulations would probably require a lifejacket at a minimum.

I advise against ever asking a quarry for permission. I used to try it and have never been successful even when offering a fee and cooking up some sort of pottery clay sampling story. All asking does is put the quarry on notice folks are interested in their mudpits and cause them to start watching them.

Since permission was not granted the following year for the only case I know of that involved permission given by an actual quarry owner, I would tend to agree.

The best chance you have is to get lost by taking a shortcut across the best looking part of the clay pit, and when and if you do get busted, ask for a hand to get out of the dangerous muddy trap you have accidentally fallen into!

Not sure how it would go down ( :D ) if you happened to be dressed in attire other than your everyday garb! The thrill would certainly be there though.
