Looking for sinking spots in SF Bay Area
I'm in the SF Bay Area and am very interested at getting in the mud. Many of the quicksand map listings in the area are not private whatsoever. Does anyone have tips on where to go for a nice deep sink that will not get me seen? Thanks!

A bit cold for this sort of thing right now, but two places that come to mind are (1) Suisun Marsh and (2) Point Reyes National Seashore.
Both areas are large enough that there are numerous places to have a private sink off trail and therefore safe from discovery.
However, be aware that both places are patrolled, but not hard to evade such patrols if you are off trail, and you can always say that you wanted to go swimming or examine marsh life or some other excuse if you do get caught out there in the mud. (There is, of course, no problem at all if you are out simply hiking on the trails or walking cross country, assuming you like poison oak.)
Suisun Marsh, off Highway 80 in Solano County, is 10% of California's remaining inland wetlands, mostly diked wetlands used for light agriculture (like grazing) and duck hunting in the fall. (Do be careful to go there when a hunting season is not in session, or else you may be mistaken for a loon or something...) A lot of the area is privately owned, but the core area of Grizzly Island is a state wildlife area, with plenty of mud, water to wash off in, and levees and vegetation to hide behind. Of course, in any such areas, keep a close watch on the tides.
Point Reyes National Seashore (on the coast in Marin County) has a lot of tidal wetlands (although these can be dangerous and exposed), but there are also freshwater wetlands and silted-in cow ponds throughout the area.
Google maps should provide you with lots of opportunities.
Even for those of you who do not go jumping into mud for fun, these are beautiful and natural areas full of wildlife and protected for our use and the use for future generations.

Be especially aware of poison oak at Point Reyes. I got the worst case in my life there.
