Depending on the location I suppose you could bring along some caving gear. It won't help much out near the mud but by the time you get back to civilization you might look on the clean side by comparison with a lot of cave explorers.

Aside from that, I suppose a spray bottle of water might help some. My pits all have water. HOT water, in fact.

Usually where you find mud you find water. Maybe not the cleanest or most abundant but you can improvise well enough until you get back to civilization. While a studio setting with a hot shower is preferable it's rare. At various times we've utilized nearby lakes, ponds, rivers, slurry ponds, etc. There was a bathtub sized series of depressions left by heavy equipment and filled with rain water once. One of the best planned setups was an idea that Dave had in Canada. We filled 5 gallon jerry cans with hot water and wrapped them in towels in the truck where they remained warm all day. If you don't have a friend to lift a big can of water over your head you could use old milk jugs or similar. I was surprised how well that worked out. Regardless the idea is just to get the top layer off. Leave some towels on your vehicle seats and head for something more proper.

try and scrape as much off as possible,. take some bottled water and use it to clean off the bits people can see,.. (head, face, hands) then let the rest dry on you and attempt to brush some off,.. put on clean clothes over the top of your dirty body,. as long as its relatively dry it wont show through and as long as the bits of you people can see look clean you wont attract any attention while going home - then just shower when you get in,. its worked for me for years and i get plastered from head to toe

I will recommend one thing that ought to go along with the advice already given by gamwam to simply cover up most of the mud with clothes until you get to a shower. If you are still very muddy under those clothes, take them off outside somewhere and rinse off with a hose. Mud, especially mud containing fibrous matter or sand, is not good for plumbing. If you go directly into a shower you might have to make up some sort of cover story to tell your plumber.

We also invested in a battery powered water pump for shooting at a location that was known to only have water only on top of deep mud (not suitable for cleanup).

So, we pumped relatively clean water into a 5 gallon bucket and then used that to have the ladies wash up. Without that setup, it would have been a one-and-done day.

The 1-2 gallon pump sprayer in the yard care section for mixing weed killer or insecticide works quite well.... Make sure you label it water only

I got some pretty interesting looks one time in Chester when I used the DIY car wash to clean off my clothes (I was still dressed) enough be seen in public.
Which I had to do to get back to the hotel. Seems like ages ago.
