We moved`

Postby reisen55 » Fri Dec 06, 2019 11:32 am

Georgia to NYState for 4 year old grand-daughter and to be near good family. Nessie - Charlie is adjusting well. But I have yet to find the primary computer with the quicksand stuff on it - it is boxed somewhere down in the basement.

Gotta have the quicksand stuff. And don't lose the Charlie-pics either. Actually, I am not sure which is more important!

I wish you happiness in your new home.

I had to move about 2 and a half years ago for the first time in over 20 years! :shock:

It was a royal pain in the ass, and I was only moving across town. I can't imagine going to another a state as far apart as NY and Georgia. :?

But, it will all be worth it when you get settled. 8-)

Best of luck to you! :D

Indeed moving can be a real hassle. Over my career I moved, interstate, six times. The first time I was just starting out and did it with just a well-loaded car and one trip just shy of 800 miles and then got what else I needed by buying it. Each time after thing meant a trunk, then bigger trucks, and finally a big truck for one trip and about 20 trips in a car pulling a trailer. There were also a few trips by truck moving stuff from other places. That sort of thing is not fun.

Georgia to NY? Holy cats. I'd do it for a grandchild but that's about all that would take me from paradise to Siberia. I moved to South Florida when I was young for one year. Moved once since I got married 30 years ago. Don't plan to move again until they take me out of here in a box.

When I was 2 we moved from Mountain View to east San Jose.

7 = Moved to Fremont.

10 = Mom and 4 boys move to west San Jose to a rental home. (parents split up,... father splits, period)

12 = Moved back to M.V.

14 = Moved back to east San Jose.

16 - Moved back to Mountain View for the last time.

Ever wonder what a ping pong ball feels like? I don't.

I've lived in 5 different locations in M.V. since then, my final spot being a bedroom rental in a friend's home. It's become so expensive here now after Google set up headquarters that almost nobody I knew or grew up with is left.

Right now the Googleloids are building upon what was my last large plane flying site, a former parking lot for nearby Shoreline Amphitheater: https://youtu.be/OZ2DieLZp4Q. :cry:

But it's my hometown and not Google's, so I'll stay as long as I possibly can.

For Nessie - Charlie is by far more important. As for the move, seems a horrendous mistake in every way for about 10 reasons. Wish we had not done it at all.

Snow's not that bad once you acclimate to it. I always tell myself I'm going to retire to a place where it's not a thing but honestly I think I'd miss the changing seasons. I mean, summer and fall are awesome because winter sucks. I think you'd appreciate it less if you didn't have to deal with a few months of frozen hell.

We had a few snowflakes today. It was mid-60's yesterday though. Great thing about the weather's ability to change so quickly here in the winter is when it does go to crap it doesn't last long.
