Idea about shoes that don't sink

Heh-heh..Yeah, the whole "walk on water" thing was debunked long ago. They are just mudflat shoes.

Speaking of which, it took me awhile to find these. I saw them several years back on TV or something. They fold up when pulling upward but spread way out when pushing down for more supportive surface area: https://safequip.co.uk/product/mudders/

How long is the distance you have to walk over soft ground until you reach that particular spot?
When it is only short and the area is secluded i would either bring some boards and leave them in place or would crawl over the worst spots just like already described here.

Those "bogshoes" do like quite useful when you are hiking through a raised bog (flat matress of plants floating above liquid peat) and you really need to distribute your weight. For me they are not that useful (forest-bog with lots of obstacles / mudflat with loads of sticky stuff that will cling and clog those "shoes" much more than my boots i'm already wearing)

Its not a long distance, no more that 100 feet

I think boards are going to be the way to go, seems easy enough and I dont have to mess around with taking them on and off. Just lay them down and jump right in.

It sounds like you might be after mud patterns.

The important takeaway is that the toe of the shoe is over the edge of the board, which makes it easier to break the suction and take your next step. This will probably be important for any homemade solution you come up with.

Those bog walking shoes don't look so silly to me. You should make sure that they can easily removed (even when submerged). Being made of plastic they should easily float back to the surface unless they get caught on something.

But yeah, crawling also does the trick. I guess it depends on the area to cross whether I would prefer to crawl or put on those shoes.
