I've started writing a detailed account of this sinking experience - it might be useful for others to read. Basically diary of a real sinker. :P

Thanks for the thread, because I learnt many lessons. Number One - carry a stick! No exaggeration, but I would not have been able to get out of this stuff without a stick or an assistant - it was like mud limbo - going nowhere except more tired. I'm sure it was getting thicker the more I tried to work my way out.

I was able to extract myself about 15 minutes after these pictures:

:D :D :D

Ooh, I’ve seen the videos you’ve been uploading that were from this - I’ve rather enjoyed them!
I’m not the person I was in 2016.

Almost went to try and sink in a different spot today but was thwarted by a persistent woman walking her dog. :(

Lucky I kept control of how deep I did manage to sink because I would have been seen :?

Anyone have any good excuses when you're found really stuck in chest deep mud?

I can,t imagine being caught mudding in chest deep waders but you could tell someone your a biologist or a surveyor doing field work,of course you would have to have gear and supplies suggesting its all true, or maybe your collecting soil samples for testing . lol . The area your exploring looks very interesting and of course never a good situation when its near a trail where people can walk by you. The only scenario would be walking along a coast line along a mudflat, a lot of people do that. If your running or hiking trails in the woods it would be reasonable that someone could accidently walk into a mudbog. I know that clay is very clingy, especially deep stuff.the bog muck I encounter is just as thick as clay.

I am lucky, there is a lot of government land where I hike with many lakes and bogs with absolutely no one around, the only problem is to be careful not getting lost, you are pretty much on your own so I really want to be prepared when checking anything out.If I try wading in with waders, I wont use the most expensive pair either and hopefully there is a place you can clean up, a lake or a creek.

Its to hard to go out with waders...
I prefer wear 2 or 3 opaques tights to go in this kind of mud. With tights, your body is completly sucked in the mud. You should try.

Every single time myself or anyone I was with sank into quicksand or mud or clay, thigh high boots with high heels was a must! The feeling is beyond words, and if getting stuck or acting it out, nothing works better! I so highly recommend it.

I’ve had some experience with getting stuck below the brim of block heel tall boots in deep clay and it was quite scary… the boots, if you’re unable to slip out of them, will absolutely lock you in place. It’s like a have-a-heart trap… the mud will easily let you and your boots enter, but won’t let you back out. Make sure you’ve got a plan in place in case you truly do get stuck beyond your ability to get out. It can get scary quick!

Here are some pictures of me when I get stuck wearing boots that I was unable to slip out of. I was stuck for about 90min, and I was close to calling emergency services.
